MARLIN, Texas (FOX 44) – UPDATE: The City of Marlin has issued an update regarding its water situation and boil water notice.
The city says it experienced a significant loss in water pressure on Tuesday morning, which ultimately led to water outages being experienced by numerous homes and businesses serviced by its water system. Marlin’s Public Works Department, Fire Department, Police Department, and Water Treatment Plant staff started searching throughout the water service area for possible leaks. A total of six water leaks, ranging from three inch to eight inch water lines, were identified and repaired.
Representatives from the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) arrived at City Hall at 10 a.m. Tuesday and met with Marlin’s City Manager, Mayor, Emergency Management Coordinator, Water Plant Manager, and Public Works Director. Falls County’s Emergency Management Coordinator and Rosebud’s City Administrator were also in attendance. During this meeting, the water issue was discussed in great detail and plans for response and recovery were drafted.
Representatives from TEEX’s Public Works Response Team (PWRT), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and the Capital Area Trauma Advisory Council (CATRAC) arrived in Marlin early Tuesday afternoon in order to provide Marlin staff and the community with logistical and administrative support. The city says it is currently operating under a unified command structure with these agencies, with the common goal of bringing our current water issues to a prompt conclusion.
The city says that due to the water pressure losses and outages, the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department will be immediately notified of any/all fire incidents within the city limits to provide additional water supply for firefighting operations. If a major fire occurs, additional water tanker support will be provided by area fire departments located in Falls, Robertson, McLennan, and Limestone Counties.
City of Marlin Public Works continued working with the Public Works Response Team members on Wednesday morning in order to identify and repair additional water leaks. If you see one or more drones flying in or around the Marlin community, they are likely assisting with leak detection.
This comes after a boil water notice for Marlin was also issued on Tuesday. It was believed the city found the source of the pressure loss and corrected it – however, it was apparent that additional issues existed and would need to be identified and addressed.
Until further notice, all Marlin citizens and businesses have been encouraged to practice water conservation until full pressure is restored. Conservation measures include the temporary discontinuation of lawn irrigation and vehicle washing.
The city is asking all citizens to report any potential water leaks by calling or visiting the city’s water office at City Hall. If calling, you can dial (254) 883-1450 and select the “water office” voice prompt.
