End of story for SK Deinze. The ailing Challenger Pro League club cannot pay its debts and was declared bankrupt today. A sporting drama on the Leie, but the settlement also has an impact on the competition.
A club that has to close its books during the season is unfortunately not unique in Belgian football. Deinze follows in the dubious footsteps of, among others, Mouscron (2009-2010).
After the bankruptcy, 15 teams will remain in the Challenger Pro League and 1 club will be available every match day.
But what happens to all the matches that have already been played? The current competition is 14 rounds old.
The fact that Deinze is being deleted is detrimental to the clubs that had collected points against the sinking ship in recent months. They must return that loot.

Who drew and plays 1 punt lost? Zulte Waregem, Lokeren-Temse and Lommel SK.
Things are changing for the clubs that lost to Deinze nothing and it is, as it were, a null operation. This concerns RSCA Futures, Lierse SK, Club NXT, Jong Genk and SK Beveren.
Only Eupen had not yet played against Deinze in the first round. That match was scheduled for Saturday.

Deinze’s demise therefore has consequences for the top of the rankings. For example, La Louvière is no longer co-leader (a deduction of 3 points compared to 1 point for Zulte Waregem).
But there are also complications at the bottom. Deinze is classified as one of the 2 failures. The relegation battle will therefore only result in 1 loser at the end of the season.
