The military spokesman for the joint operations room for the “Deterring Aggression” battle led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Abdul Ghani, announced on Thursday, “The city of Hama was completely liberated, after our forces successfully completed the combing operations.”

Abdul Ghani added: “Homs is awaiting the arrival of our forces.”

Hama Governorate is located in central Syria, about 150 km from Aleppo in the north, and 200 km from the Syrian capital, Damascus, in the south. It is separated from the coast, the stronghold of the Syrian regime, by less than 100 km, and this gives it a strategic location to influence many political and military dynamics.

The Syrian regime’s news agency (SANA) announced the withdrawal of army units from the city of Hama, after fierce battles on several fronts in central Syria.

The “General Command of the Army and Armed Forces” issued a statement from Damascus, in which it confirmed “the redeployment and repositioning outside the city,” in order “to preserve the lives of civilians from the people of the city of Hama, and not to drag them into battles inside the cities.”

The statement added: “Over the past days, our armed forces have fought fierce battles to repel and thwart the violent and successive attacks on the city of Hama from various axes, and in huge numbers, using all means and military equipment,” noting that “during the past hours, with the intensification of confrontations, and the rise in numbers Of the deaths among our forces, these groups were able to penetrate and enter several areas in the city, despite incurring heavy losses among their ranks.”
