Canal+ subscribers can say goodbye to Disney+ and a bunch of channels

Canal+ subscribers can say goodbye to Disney+. In fact, the encrypted channel has confirmed the cessation of the distribution of the streaming service in its offers. But that's not all, all Disney channels are also being phased out.

We have suspected this for several months now. Since June 2024, Canal+ has been quite discreet regarding the integration of Disney+ into its various packages. In the Canal+ store, the streaming service was no longer even displayed in the channels and services provided with your offer. We had to make do with a single banner, in which we could read “Enjoy Disney+ Standard with advertising, inclusive until the end of 2024″.

Obviously, this new deadline has attracted the attention of users. For many subscribers, this indicated that Disney+ would eventually disappear from Canal+ packages by the start of 2025. Especially since in the process, Max quickly replaced Mickey's platform in the services offered by Canal+.

Disney and Canal+, the divorce is pronounced!

Unfortunately, the encrypted channel has just confirmed the bad news to its customers on its official blog. As of December 31, 2024, Disney+ will no longer be distributed in Canal+ offers. And as was to be expected, subscribers will not only lose access to the streaming platform. Indeed, Canal+ is also ending the distribution of all TV channels managed by the big-eared firm, namely:

  • Disney Channel
  • Disney Channel +1
  • Disney Junior
  • National Geographic
  • National Geographic Wild

Cherry on the cake, Canal+ will no longer be able to offer the latest Disney film releases in advance on its channels. Indeed, the agreement between the two companies allowed the encrypted channel to broadcast the company's films only 4 months after their release in theaters.

For Canal+, this is obviously a hard blow, the encrypted channel having been a partner of Disney+ since 2020. Despite everything, the group wants to be confident and explains its subscribers subscribe to its offers above all for its exclusive content, Disney+ being a simple bonus: “This is a fairly marginal consumption by our subscribers. We are not safe from meeting again one day”, declared Gérald-Brice Viret, general director of the group's antennas and programs, speaking to Info a few weeks ago.

If the details of this divorce remain unknown, we imagine that Canal+ and the big-eared firm failed to reach an agreement:We have not found acceptable terms with them for our subscribers which would allow us to renew this partnership. We want to remain accessible from a pricing point of view,” recognizes Christophe Pinard-Legry, general director in charge of the budget of Canal+.
