Medical Practitioners from the West African Zone A region (WAFU A) have gathered in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, for a CAF Medical Workshop, which kicked off on 2nd December and will run through 4th December.
Kicked off by CAF Executive Committee Member Mustapha Raji, who is also WAFU Zone A and Liberia Football Association President, the workshop aligns with CAF’s strategy to make African football globally competitive. Top-quality health and medical measures implemented across all CAF competitions will ensure consistency with global medical norms.
The three-day workshop is conducted by CAF Medical Manager Dr Boubakary Sidiki and CAF Anti-Doping Unit Manager Sherif Abou El Enein. Participants are guided through the latest developments in football medicine and CAF’s Anti-Doping measures.
The programme began with an in-depth session on MRI Protocol, followed by an update on CAF’s ongoing Anti-doping Unit Strategy for the period 2023 – 2025.
The last two days will focus on the importance of Anti-Doping Procedures and processes and the use of MODOC, a paperless system used by CAF Doping Control Officers (DCO) to conduct doping tests.
Player health and safety will then take centre stage in the closing phases of the programme, where Dr Yasser Abdel Rahman will share a detailed presentation on key and immediate steps to be taken in the event of suspicion of concussion, heat stroke, exertional sickling, as well as other medical emergencies that occur during a match or training.
The CAF Medical Workshop comes at the back of another successfully held Medical Workshop on the sidelines of the recently concluded CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco which was conducted for team doctors in the Women’s Football First Division League last month.
