– Scammers target individuals during the last months of the year.
Stay on guard as the Christmas holidays approach. Because if the scammers are hard at work throughout the year, they are particularly active during the last weeks of 2024. Indeed, as reported The Parisianwhile purchases are increasing in view of December 25, many scams are emerging while the French are waiting to receive packages.
If you receive messages from supposed distributors, it is quite possible that these are the work of crooks. Vigilance must therefore be required, as the Signal-Arnaques community points out. On X, she shared the message of an Internet user who denounced the recording of nearly “20 fraudulent domain names” resembling those of Mondial Relay, over the last few days. The risk is that the scammer will fool you by borrowing the company name or impersonating a brand-related subdomain.
Christmas: more than half of French people will not be able to buy the gifts their children were hoping for
Check the package number carefully
If you receive a message from Mondial Relay, be attentive and check that it comes from the platform popular for parcel delivery. Scammers are taking advantage of this period to further develop their scams, while consumers are hard at work purchasing Christmas gifts. In fact, under the guise of unblocking a delivery, the recipient of the SMS is asked to click on a link that is often fraudulent. He may also be asked to mention personal information including their bank card details.
“It comes back in force before Black Friday, during Christmas and until the winter sales. During these two or three months, there is always an increase in these facts”explains Jean-Jacques Latour, cybersecurity manager at cybermalveillance.gouv.fr, to our colleagues at Le Parisien. To be prudent, it is therefore recommended to check that the package number cited in the message is the one you expect.
