The facts date back to November 26. They took place in the municipalities of La Trinité and Drap, located northeast of Nice in the Alpes-Maritimes.
That day, a resident of one of the two municipalities concerned found mail in a container. Intrigued by this unusual discovery, he alerted La Poste.
Management immediately began its investigation and it was not difficult to identify the person responsible for the three tours that raised questions. When questioned, the responsible postman, a fixed-term contract, admitted everything.
According to the management of La Poste, the postman relieved himself of part of his tour by throwing letters into the containers he encountered on his way. Just to lighten your tour. First 220 letters on the first day, 70 on the second… In total, 318 letters were simply thrown into trash cans, as precisely indicated by our colleagues from France Bleu.
According to the management of the Post Office, the unscrupulous postman was laid off two days before the end of his fixed-term contract and a complaint against him has been filed : “the Poste was alerted on November 26 of the discovery of 220 abandoned letters. Thanks to the addresses of the letters, the agent (on fixed-term contract) who was responsible for them was identified and La Poste filed a complaint against him with the gendarmerie for ‘abreach of secrecy or suppression of correspondence by a public service official”.
La Poste filed a complaint against the postman for “breach of secrecy or deletion of correspondence by a public service official”.

And to add : “In the meantime, new abandoned mail was discovered on the same distribution tour. The correspondence was collected and redistributed. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience.”
In total, 318 letters are affected.

Management reminds that “any person working in mail delivery takes an oath on respect and non-violation of the secrecy of correspondence”.
Postmen take an oath to respect and non-violate the secrecy of correspondence.
Letters can, in fact, contain order information that is sometimes vital for their recipients. Letters from bailiffs, doctors, social services, employers or even bankers… Sometimes precious pieces of our lives such as private or intimate correspondence.
Beyond the event at the end of November, a certain number of residents of La Trinité had already reported to their town hall a good number of malfunctions in mail delivery.
