Mobilization of taxis: the reasons for the anger
Taxis demonstrate to protest against new measures imposed by the Social Security financing law. These measures include the implementation of compulsory health carpooling for patients transported in the medical context.
According to this reform, patients will have to agree to share their journey with others, unless there is a valid medical reason, or to advance the costs and be reimbursed solely on the basis of the carpooling price.
Taxi drivers denounce what they perceive as an “Uberization” of their profession, which would favor large transport companies to the detriment of small artisans. They believe that this affects not only their income, but also the comfort and freedom of choice of patients.
This reform aims to reduce health insurance expenses of around 3.5 billion euros, but it is criticized for its economic and social repercussions?
Demonstrations, including snail operations, were organized in several French cities, including Lyon. The unions are demanding a renegotiation of medical transport conditions?
