The patience of “Wednesday” fans should soon be rewarded. Good news about season 2 has just arrived.
It is the most popular English-language Netflix series of all time, with just over 252 million views for its first season: Wednesday will make its comeback on the platform in 2025 after a thunderous launch in 2022 and should secure its place in the ultra-popular series.
And the site always well informed What’s on Netflix tells us that season 2 has just finished filming and that a third is most likely about to be announced. We take this opportunity to take stock of what we know about this second season.
The phenomenon of season 1
Based on the universe of The Addams Family – which first existed in the form of cartoons before being available in series and films – Wednesday was one of the most anticipated Netflix series of the year 2022. The eight episodes were released on Netflix on November 23 2022.
Very soon after its launch, the program became Netflix's most-watched English-language series, garnering 12 Emmy nominations and ultimately winning four. These awards recognize the best costumes, original main title theme, makeup and production design.

An obvious renewal
Wednesday was renewed a few months after its release on January 6, 2023. The renewal was a no-brainer, as the series exceeded all expectations thanks to the above-mentioned awards and a buzz that went viral on social media from fans .
During the renewal, Netflix released a short clip teasing the upcoming second season, but without giving many key details about this new chapter.
At the time of the renewal, however, it was an open secret, when we knew that the writers had already started working and that many announcements had fallen during the Christmas period.
“It's been incredible to create a series that has touched people all over the world“, said Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the two showrunners of the series who are returning for season 2.
“We are excited to continue Wednesday's twisty journey in Season 2. We can't wait to dive headfirst into a new season and explore the sinister world of Nevermore. We just have to make sure Wednesday hasn't emptied the pool first.“
Wednesday season 2, where is it?
First, let's look at what the showrunners have announced for the future of the series. Addressing The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the series' official renewal, they said:
“For us, the series is also about this female friendship, of which Wednesday and Enid are the heart. The fact that they really connected with the audience was very rewarding. So we're excited to explore, now that Wednesday has dipped her toe in the pool of friendship, what that's going to look like.“
Many sources suggest that an important new character will appear in season 2. Among the speculations, we find Cousin Machin, Purbert or even Grandma Addams. As for Jenna Ortega, she spoke to Variety in June 2023 and gave a preview of what we can expect from the tone:
“Filming is still underway, but we decided to lean more into horror. We're ditching any romantic love interests, which is really great. We're going to be bolder, darker.“
