Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: an intense thriller about one of the most publicized trials of the 2000s.
An intimate conviction is ultimately not scheduled this Monday, December 2, the channel having chosen to pay tribute to the late Niels Arestrup with the diffusion of Fun.
Last week, we told you about the film Le Torrent by director Anne Le Ny, a well-crafted thriller with José Garcia, inspired by the very famous Suzanne Viguier affair. Today, we are interested in another legal thriller based on this news story.
Want another TV tip for tonight? We recommend this thriller with Liam Neeson. And if he calls you this evening around 9:30 p.m., know that your problems have only just begun…
Its title? An intimate conviction. Released in cinemas in 2019, this high-voltage trial film is written and directed by Antoine Raimbault (to whom we also owe An Affair of Principle).
Since Nora attended the trial of Jacques Viguier (Laurent Lucas), accused of the murder of his wife, she has been convinced of his innocence. Fearing a miscarriage of justice, she managed to convince Éric Dupond-Moretti, tenor of the bar, to defend him for his second trial, on appeal.
Together, these two determined characters played on screen by Marina Foïs and Olivier Gourmet will lead a fierce fight against injustice. As the noose tightens around the one everyone accuses, Nora's quest for truth turns into obsession.
Antoine Raimbault’s masterstroke
Unfairly passed unnoticed during its cinema release, the film An intimate conviction only made 402,300 entries at the box office. However, over time, he has indeed managed to win the hearts of the general public.
The national press as well as AlloCiné spectators gave it an honorable rating of 4 out of 5. This powerful legal thriller was also nominated for the Lumières de la presse foreigne in the Best first film category.
Because the director Antoine Raimbault signs here his first long production, after his short film Vos violences, with Éric Dupond-Moretti and Solène Rigot (notably seen in the comedy Comme des Garcons by Julien Hallard).
And the least we can say is that it’s flawless! Among the many reviews published on our site, we can read: “An intelligent film”, “A powerful film!” “A brilliant and intelligent first feature film, totally mastered, which strikes a major blow”, “A masterful and masterful first film from start to finish”, or even “Excellent legal film”. What more can I say?
Tonight on France 3 at 9:05 p.m.
