Heavy support, for an important score. Jordan Duflot (RN, ex-FN) came first in the first round, with 39.12% of the votes, during the legislative by-election for the first constituency of the Ardennes. Unlike its predecessor, it is a “pure Ardennes”an argument put forward by the far-right party.
Trailing behind: the candidate Lionel Vuibert, also born in the Ardennes and former deputy of the presidential majority (Renaissance, ex-LREM). A party from which he is now trying to show a relative distance by candidate with an independent label (SE). His score is 25.42%, despite very strong abstention (almost 70%) on Sunday December 1, 2024. The vote reserves are hardly favorable to him (see graph below).
The election was organized following the surprise resignation of Flavien Termet, youngest member of the National Assembly (AN), officially for health reasons (there would be another reason, undisclosed, according to The World). Jordan Duflot led a rapid and effective field campaign despite the affair of the parliamentary assistants, in which the centrist Democratic Movement (Modem) party was also entangled previously.
Jordan Duflot is on track to win the second round, scheduled for Sunday December 8. And he will benefit from significant new support: a presidential visit, that of party leader Jordan Bardella, who took over from Marine Le Pen in 2021.
This visit has not yet been revealed to the public, but was confirmed to France 3 Champagne-Ardenne by an internal party source. It should take place “early afternoon”near Rethel, probably in Lucquy (village of just under 600 inhabitants, visible on the map below).
Jordan Bardella is currently a Member of the European Parliament. Between Brussels and Strasbourg, he is officially a member of the conference of presidents of Euro-parliamentary groups, as well as of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Which meets precisely on the afternoon of Monday December 2 and Tuesday December 3.
