The reason for this disappearance: un protest movement against new medical transport prices which were offered to them by the National Health Insurance Fund.

For Thibault Lafontaine, vice-president of the Taxi Union, “if these tariffs are applied, taxis would see their turnover drop by 30 to 40%or even more in the provinces where medical transport can represent up to 100% of turnover”.

For taxi drivers – 522 in the Var – the survival of the profession is at stake. Mr. Lafontaine affirms: “half of taxi drivers would find themselves bankrupt or ruined because their license plate (editor’s note) will no longer be worth anything”.
