The Golden State Warriors, despite a recent string of disappointing non-Cup losses, have gone 3-0 in the second annual Emirates NBA Cup tournament. They have clinched their spot for the next round as the first seed in West Group C, ahead of the 2-1 Dallas Mavericks, 1-2 Denver Nuggets, 1-2 Memphis Grizzlies, and 1-3 New Orleans Pelicans. Their final Group Stage game will be against the Nuggets on December 3rd, where they’ll have a chance to go 4-0 and land at the top spot in the West.
Per CBS Sports, “The winners of each group (based on round-robin record and point differential if a tiebreaker is needed), plus one wild card from each conference (best record of non-group winner), will advance to the knockout stage, where the tournament becomes single-elimination all the way through the semifinals and final in Las Vegas.”
The Warriors will face off against the Houston Rockets, as well as either the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, or Oklahoma City Thunder, if current standings do not change.
The Nuggets, who the Warriors face next week, do not have a chance to continue, as they’d land behind the Mavericks even if they end up beating the Warriors. The Warriors, if they lose, would stay at the top spot in West Group C.
