The senator from Calvados, Pascal Allizard (LR), was elected this Tuesday, November 19, 2024, president of the French delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe).
Fundamental cooperation
The entity, which brings together 57 states from North America, Europe and Asia, is the largest regional organization dedicated to security, conflict prevention and the promotion of Human Rights.
Constitution of the delegation
During the constitutive meeting of the French delegation, composed of eight deputies and five senatorsseveral vice-presidents were also elected or re-elected.
Stéphane Demilly (Centrist Union – Somme) and Gisèle Jourda (Socialist, Ecologist and Republican – Aude) were re-elected vice-presidents, while Pascal Lecamp (The Democrats – Vienna), Michel Herbillon (Republican Right – Val-de-Marne) and Liliana Tanguy (Together for the Republic – Finistère) were elected to the positions of first vice-president and vice-presidents.
The role of the organization
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly plays a crucial role in adopting declarations on issues such as peace, security, economic cooperation and the defense of fundamental freedoms.
Priority topics include the war in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East and the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The assembly also conducts election observation missions in various countries.
