Pep Guardiola has spoken out to clarify his comments on his scratches which appeared at the end of Manchester City's 3-3 draw against Feyenoord in the Champions League.

A salutary clarification, which reminds us that self-harm is a serious subject in terms of mental health. After the 3-3 draw conceded by Manchester City against Feyenoord in the Champions League, while the English club led by three goals, Pep Guardiola appeared before the press with scratch marks on his head and face. “I wanted to hurt myself,” he explained with a smile that could convey a certain lightness. But the day after this speech, the Spanish coach wanted to clarify his thoughts.

“Last night, at the end of the press conference, I was caught off guard by a question about a scratch that appeared on my face and I explained that a sharp fingernail had accidentally caused it. My response did not was in no way intended to minimize the very serious issue of self-harm”, assured Pep Guardiola.

“I know that many people face mental health problems every day and I would like to take this moment to highlight one of the ways to seek help,” concluded the Manchester coach, giving the number and the email address of Samaritans, a British emotional support organization.

The French equivalent of Samaritans is SOS Amitié. This is an anonymous listening service available free of charge 24 hours a day by telephone (09.72.39.40.50) and by online chat.
