In an emphatic display of intent, Inter Milan’s head coach, Simone Inzaghi, has openly declared the club’s ambition to return to the Champions League final following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia shortly after the match, Inzaghi reflected on his team’s performance and their aspirations in Europe’s elite tournament. Having reached the final just two seasons ago, only to narrowly miss out to Manchester City, the ambition to reclaim that spot looms large over the Nerazzurri.
“Every team sets their sights on the final, and Inter is no different,” stated Inzaghi. “However, juggling matches every few days comes with its own set of challenges.”

The Italian tactician expressed gratitude for the squad at his disposal, acknowledging the difficulties posed by a packed schedule. “I consider myself fortunate to coach such talented players, but the rhythm of Saturday, Tuesday, and then Sunday matches can be demanding for everyone involved,” he added.
Inter’s undefeated streak in this year’s Champions League, along with an impressive five-match run without conceding a goal, has placed them firmly among the favourites for UEFA’s coveted title. Inzaghi’s side has delivered performances that meet heightened expectations, a far cry from last season’s surprising exit at the round of 16 stage.
Reflecting on the match against Leipzig, Inzaghi acknowledged some missed opportunities to secure a more comfortable victory. “Dumfries had a chance at the start of the second half that could have changed the outcome of the game,” he noted. He also expressed disbelief at Mkhitaryan’s disallowed goal, suggesting it was a questionable decision. “These situations are a part of football,” he affirmed.

Inzaghi highlighted the quality of their opponents saying, “We approached the game aware of our capabilities against a top-class team.” He noted the caliber of players such as Openda, Sesko, Nusa, and Leipzig’s midfielders, all of whom he respects, given Leipzig’s deep run in the Champions League in recent years.
With aspirations of rekindling their Champions League glory, Inter Milan continues to build momentum, with the belief that past experiences will fortify their quest for future success.
