This week on TF1 in “The Young and the Restless”, Mariah and Tessa are getting married! This union is also the first on the part of a homosexual couple in the entire history of the soap opera! Camryn Grimes and Cait Fairbanks react to this storyline.
It's one of the events of the year in The Young and the Restless: the wedding of Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Mariah (Camryn Grimes) finally takes place in Genoa City on TF1 this week, from Monday to Friday at from 11am! Indeed, while Ashley Nikki and Phyllis are preparing to gang up on Diane, the couple of women unite for better or for worse!
The first same-sex marriage in the series
At the time of the broadcast of these episodes in the United States (in May 2022), the actresses spoke to the magazine People and had confided their joy in interpreting this plot. For the first time in its history, the soap opera (more than 50 seasons on the clock!) featured a homosexual marriage!
Camryn Grimes (who remembers for AlloCiné a scene that she hated) declared to the American media: “This union has had incredible fan support so far and it brings me a lot of joy. We feel like we're returning the favor by allowing them to see our characters being happy and in love, we're at the peak of this couple's relationship.“
“We realize the weight of what we are saying”
The one who played Cassie and then her twin Mariah continues: “Over the years, I've been touched by many of the stories I've heard – one fan told me that a family member watches Mariah and Tessa and it opened up a conversation about their own stories, or that our love helped another person come out. It's very beautiful and we realize the weight of what we're saying.”
“We portray so many people on screen who don't have the opportunity to be themselves, and every time I come to work, I'm reminded of that, adds playing partner Cait Fairbanks. The Young and the Restless series can really be proud of itself, and I hope there are some exciting storylines to come to keep that connection with the audience.“
