There will have been no miracle. Stade Brestois lost (3-0) on the pitch of FC Barcelona for its fifth Champions League match on Tuesday November 26. The Ty-Zefs recorded their first defeat in the competition but did not have to be ashamed of their performance against one of the biggest European clubs.
It was the Barcelona who opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match with a penalty conceded by Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot guilty of a foul on Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker did himself justice by scoring his 100th goal in the Champions League. The first period was largely to the advantage of the Catalans who stifled the Ty-Zefs who were nevertheless not unworthy, trying to play their rare shots to the fullest. And at half-time, it was only a small goal behind that the Brestois returned to the locker room.
Lewandowski’s 101st goal in the Champions League
The start of the second period looks exactly like the first, with continuous attacks from the Barcelona side, well muzzled by Eric Roy’s players. Brestois who, however, had the greatest difficulty getting close to the FC Barcelona goals. The absences in each team undoubtedly weighed on the performance of both teams. Lamine Yamal, absent from Barcelona and Pierre Less-Melou from Brest.
The Barcelona residents multiplied the attacks and opportunities, in vain, with Brest residents saved by Chardonnet, Bizot, the Cardinal or Lala imperial. But quite logically, the Catalans managed to double the lead through Dani Olmo in the 66th minute of the match. At the very end of the match, Robert Lewansowki scored Barcelona’s 3rd goal, his 101st in the Champions League.
Certainly, the Brestois are going down in the ranking but they will have shown a good image to the more than 3000 supporters who came to applaud their team. And for them, the dream continues.
