Bayern legend Thomas Müller spoke surprisingly openly in an interview about his future after his active career. The 35-year-old, whose contract with the record champions expires after the current season, hinted at several possible scenarios. It is still unclear whether Müller will hang up his boots after this season, but his thoughts on his future extend beyond football.
Munich – “At the moment my full focus is on being a player – that’s stressful enough,” Müller explained BR24. At the same time, he was thoughtful about various options: “There are many options, be it in coaching, as a television expert or even outside of football – maybe even something with my stud.”
He emphasized: “I have always felt comfortable doing one thing at a time. My full focus now is on being a player.”
Müller praises Kompany despite his role as a reservist
In the debate about a possible role in the club's management, Müller was rather reserved: “There are a few roles in the football world that suit me well, but one thing at a time. I can't do all the roles at the same time. But at some point I’ll have to make a decision – but it’s not now.”
Speculation that he could one day take up a position in Bayern's management remains open, even though club icon Karl-Heinz Rummenigge brought up this very possibility in February.

Müller is currently not always going through an easy phase on the pitch. Under the new coach Vincent Kompany, the attacker is primarily used as a joker. In the most recent game against FC Augsburg he was only substituted on shortly before the end. Nevertheless, Müller has words of praise for Kompany: “He knows what goes on in a dressing room. As a former captain of Belgium and Manchester City, he brings this experience with him and he challenges us clearly and specifically. The hard work we do against the ball is rewarded – with more possession, control and fun in the game.”
