There have apparently been irregularities in the Baar district registry office. According to a press release from the cantonal Directorate of the Interior, these led to a self-report by an employee. The public prosecutor’s office has started an investigation. The orderly operation of the civil registry office, which, in addition to the municipality of Baar, also carries out all civil status law tasks for the municipalities of Menzingen and Neuheim, is guaranteed.

The supervisory authority will ensure that the tasks and certifications for these communities can continue to be fulfilled. There are no restrictions for the population.

Neither the canton nor the affected municipality of Baar provided any information about which person reported themselves and what irregularities were involved. Lukas Langhart, communications officer for the Interior Directorate, says: “For reasons of privacy protection, we do not provide any information about the person or the facts of the case.”

The name of the management of the civil status office is currently missing on the corresponding website of the Baar civil status district.

A lack of resources made this step necessary

On Friday, November 22nd, the government council decided to transfer the tasks of the Baar district civil status office in the sense of administrative administration “immediately and in full to the cantonal supervisory authority, namely the civil status and civil rights service of the Interior Directorate,” it says Notice.

This means: “As administrator, the cantonal supervisory authority was temporarily given responsibility for the Baar civil status district and all associated tasks and powers. The administration by the canton will probably take until the municipality of Baar is again staffed in such a way that it can run the civil registry office independently,” explains Lukas Langhart.

In addition to the voluntary disclosure, a lack of human resources in the Baar district registry office made it necessary to place the registry office under the canton’s authority.

What next in Baar?

According to Walter Lipp, mayor of Baar, the search for a civil registrar is likely to be difficult. The job market for civil registrars who have qualifications has dried up. The search is correspondingly difficult.

“However, the municipality of Baar will remain active on the labor market and will look for suitable people to run the registry office independently again – in consultation with the canton. When exactly this will be the case is currently unclear,” explains Lipp when asked.
