Lithuania: at least one dead after plane crash near Vilnius airport: News

On the night of Sunday November 24 to Monday November 25, a cargo plane from the transport company DHL crashed a few kilometers from Vilnius airport, Lithuania. For the moment, no avenue, including terrorist, has been excluded.

A cargo plane from the transport company DHL crashed a few kilometers from Vilnius airport, Lithuania, on the night of Sunday November 24 to Monday November 25. The incident took place around 3:30 a.m., the company said in a press release, relayed by BFMTV. The device, which came from Leipzig, Germany, “made an emergency landing”.

One of the four crew members was found dead. The area where the plane landed in emergency was evacuated by emergency services, who were still on site Monday morning. An investigation was opened to determine the causes of this crash, in the context of incendiary packages sent by plane from Russia, according to several countries.

The possibility of a terrorist act

During a press conference, Darius Jauniskis, head of the Lithuanian intelligence services, declared that he was not ruling out any leads, even terrorist ones. “We work with our foreign partners to obtain all possible information. We cannot rule out the possibility of a terrorist act”he told journalists. Facing “an increasingly aggressive Russia”Darius Jauniskis said he was open to all hypotheses.

In recent months, packages containing incendiary devices have been found in DHL warehouses in Germany and Great Britain, or even in a truck of the transport company in Poland. At the beginning of November, suspects in this case were arrested in Lithuania and Poland. For now, everything suggests that Russia is involved in these attacks.
