This Sunday, November 24, 2024, the fiftieth issue of the show “A Sunday in the countryside” was broadcast on France 2. For this special edition, Frédéric Lopez received the novelist Virginie Grimaldi, the actor and director Dany Boon and the singer Kendji Girac.
The latter then returned to his journey, his career and his success, but also to this terrible April night which almost cost him his life. Against all odds, little Soraya's dad showed a lot of self-deprecation and evoked the drama as rarely before.
Kendji Girac: back in the spotlight after the tragedy
At 28, Kendji Girac has just released a new studio album. The former candidate for “The Voice” is trying to reconnect with his audience and has recently increased his television appearances, in order to prove that he is doing better and that he has decided to move forward.
But last April, the singer with millions of albums sold made the headlines for a sordid story. On April 22, the media revealed that the young man was shot and injured after a terrible argument with his partner Soraya. Under the influence of alcohol, the father then threatened to take his own life if she left him. Emergency hospitalized, Kendji Girac miraculously escaped without any after-effects. After a judgment during which he was acquitted, and after having apologized to his sweetheart and his public, he is now trying to put on a good face.
The singer returns to the drama
In full promotion of his latest album, Kendji Girac was this Sunday, November 24, 2024, one of the guests on the show “A Sunday in the countryside”. For this fiftieth issue, the singer shared the bill with the novelist Virginie Grimaldi and the actor and director Dany Boon.
The opportunity to look back on his nomadic childhood, he who belongs to the gypsy community, to talk about his participation in the show “The Voice”, his successful career which started ten years ago now, but also about this recent tragedy which inevitably marked his life as a man.
“You found yourself on the front page of the news, in the news section” recalled Frédéric Lopez. And Kendji Girac responded: “The only thing I needed was my daughter, my wife, my family. They were there for me at that time. It was love that rebuilt me quickly amazing“.
And to add: “It really lifted me up. […] I can only thank them and thank life for giving me so much strength. Now I'm happy like never before“. Kendji Girac also found the strength, just after this tragedy, to release an album entitled… “Vivre”. A lovely response to the tragedy which turned into a lesson.
Dany Boon dares to make a joke
Listening and attentive to the confidences of Kendji Girac, Dany Boon couldn't help but ironically comment on the situation by launching : “With everything that’s happened… Well, there won’t be any selection for the Olympic Games in shooting. That’s the thing…”. Enough to make everyone burst out, including Kendji Girac included.
And the comedian and actor added: “For 2028, it’s ruined“. To which the singer also responded with humor: “Anyway, I don't know how to shoot so it's okay“.
With a little more seriousness, Kendji Girac then concluded by revealing what life has taught him: “She taught me to enjoy every moment, and that above all you can learn from your mistakes and always become stronger, that you have to trust life. Because at the end of the tunnel there is always this light that will welcome us and enlighten us forever“. That's what it says.
