UOur black bear was killed Sunday afternoon during a fight between two bears in Pairi Daiza, the Brugelette animal park said on Sunday.
The fight occurred in black bear territory, where around ten of these animals are found. Two of them came to clash, as can happen in nature, we explained at Pairi Daiza on Sunday. The first was obviously particularly aggressive towards the second. Park staff tried firing blanks to scare and separate the animals but it did not work. “One of them unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” the park announced on its Facebook page in an official publication. According to The Latest Newsthe most aggressive bear was placed in isolation while it was determined whether he could be reinstated in his enclosure.
“This situation experienced at Pairi Daiza deeply saddens us, because our passionate teams, and first and foremost the keepers, do everything to provide a living environment adapted to each of the animals. This vast territory of black bears located in the Canadian world is also, usually, considered to be particularly uneventful,” we can read.
Visitors to the park were at no time in danger, assures Pairi Daiza, who had decided to close the area in question, as the scene could be shocking, especially for children. There was no scene of panic among the public, although some, alerted by the noise, questioned park staff.
