An incident broke out this Sunday, November 24 in the Pairi Daiza animal park, located in Brugelette in Belgium. A fight broke out around 4 p.m. in the black bear area where around ten animals live. In a press release, published on the Park's Facebook page, management explains that two bears began to violently clash.
Park crews attempted to separate the two bears
The park teams decided to close the area very quickly to the public, the scene can be shocking for visitors, especially young children. According to the park director, questioned by our Belgian colleagues from The Latest Newsthe fight lasted almost half an hour.
Park crews attempted to end the confrontation by firing blank bullets. On the Facebook page, management explains that “these sonic detonations have no physical impact, their objective being only to distract the animals' attention.” The park's shooting team tried to scare the two bears and separate them but it didn't work.
Despite the efforts of the zoo teams, one of the bears did not survive: “one of them unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.” management specifies in this press release. On Facebook, the park reminds that “These clashes between bears are natural behaviors, which we sometimes observe in wild life.” The situation greatly saddens the teams. For the moment, according to information collected by our Belgian colleagues from Het Laatste Niews, the aggressive bear was isolated from its other congeners.
