Anderlecht took nine out of nine and even more importantly for the people of Brussels: it was against a top team. They were helped by a good dose of luck. Rits’ opening goal deviated and in the third there was a lot of discussion about the second yellow card for Torunarigha.
Surprising: no Leander Dendoncker in the starting line-up at Anderlecht. He has been relieved of his ankle problems, but they want to introduce him gradually after not having played a match for weeks. At Ghent, Wouter Vrancken stuck with the team from before the international break, even without the recovered Sven Kums.
The start of the match was mainly characterized by many wrong passes. The wind played its role with the long balls, but those over about five meters… More than a few went over the sideline for both teams. There was therefore not much danger to note.
Zip with his first for Anderlecht
Ghent played man-on-man over the entire field and that complicated the build-up at Anderlecht. They played a lot on the counter, which suits them best. But sometimes you need a good dose of luck.
Under the motto: who doesn’t dare, doesn’t win, edition Mats Rits. The midfielder is not exactly known for his long shots, but when the ball fell at his feet and no one came at him, he wanted to give it a try. Against Watanabe and so Roef on the wrong foot: 1-0.
His first goal in purple-white employment, which is also striking. However, Ghent often had the better of the game. A shot from Delorge was pushed out of his corner five minutes later by another excellent Coosemans. And from then on… it was Anderlecht that ruled the day.
Second yellow Torunarigha justified? Dolberg doesn’t care about it
Suddenly everything worked. The second goal was a nice combination between the three best men on the field. Sardella to Stroeykens, Stroeykens to Dolberg and Dolberg to Edozie: 2-0, all clean. And Torunarigha made it even more difficult for his team.
Edozie rushed past the entire Ghent defense, but the person who made the mistake was also the one who already had a yellow card. Although it was debatable whether it was wrong and deserved a yellow card at all. Ghent with ten. Dolberg scored the 3-0 from the free kick that followed. It is special that Ghent erected two walls with a gap in between. Exactly to invite the Dane to step in.
Dolberg suddenly scoring machine
At Ghent they were not happy with referee Lothar D’Hondt. The second yellow for Torunarigha and earlier there was also a pulling error by Coosemans on Dean. Although that was outside the box and there didn’t really seem to be much going on in the images.
And that didn’t get any better when Samoise also got red after he had hurled Leoni judo-style into the Purple & White dug out. Red, but D’Hondt would have been better off letting it pass. Moments later, Kasper Dolberg scored his tenth goal in four games. Fantastically finished, but of course there was hardly any competition.
And substitute Kums also did something strange: he headed hard towards his own goal and the 5-0 goal went into goal via Mitrovic. Amuzu even made it 6-0. An evening to quickly forget for Ghent. The Lotto Park, on the other hand, could once again dance on the benches.
