Lio joins Femen: the singer on the front line of a punchy action

This Sunday, November 24, the eve of the International Day Against Violence Against Women, Femen organized a punchy action in the courtyard of the Louvre, in which singer Lio participated.

While November 25 marks the International Day to Combat Violence Against Women, 100 activists from the Femen and MLF collectives gathered in the courtyard of the Louvre to “to embody a living symbol of global feminism against patriarchal violence, the oppression of women and the rise of authoritarianism around the world”they wrote on Instagram. In a publication, they identify the intentions behind their action, specifying that several personalities joined them for this unprecedented gathering, notably the singer Lio.

Very committed to the fight against violence against women, having herself suffered violence during her childhood and her career, the artist posed topless in front of the famous Parisian museum, described as “a monument to elite cultural power”a black veil on the hair, “symbol of mourning and the erasure of women”. On his chest you could read the words “Femme”, “Vie” et “Freedom”. With the other activists present, the singer of Banana Split intoned The Women's AnthemThen The Song of Equalityperformed in Persian. “Each activist then tears off their veil in a gesture of liberation. Their bodies — marked with slogans and messages of resistance — become a political manifesto”specifies their press release.

Lio, a Femen enthusiast

This is not the first time Lio has participated in an event organized by the controversial activists. For the 10th anniversary of the birth of the activist movement, which notably worked in Ukraine, the singer posed topless for the first time. An evening was organized in Paris on April 19, 2018, in which the star participated, going on stage dressed and then removing her top during her appearance. Further proof of Lio's commitment to women's rights.
