Osasuna and Villarreal, two teams with European aspirations, fought a vibrant duel at El Sadar. Each team dominated a part. The first was for the rojillos, who led and scored two goals thanks to their scorer, Ante Budimir. Villarreal recovered in the second half with the entry of Gerard Moreno, who also scored the penalty awarded by Munuera Montero in the extension that allowed his team to achieve a draw when the Navarrese fans were already celebrating the victory.

The game caught fire with an Osasuna that seemed to have three lungs, that suffocated Villarreal's ball output and that had a leading light with Budimir. The Croatian, one of the best scorers in the League, scored two goals in 21 minutes. The first with a battering ram header and the second with a penalty called by the referee after reviewing the play in which Albiol overwhelmed the Croatian in the area.
Villarreal, greatly diminished by casualties, went to the locker room like someone entering the emergency room. He came out with much clearer ideas and Gerard Moreno, after three months injured, a forward with a clinical eye to detect the defense's weaknesses. Marcelino's team was different. More vertical, more lucid, more versatile. Minute by minute he subdued his opponent, increasingly cornered. That dominance brought Álex Baena's goal.
Osasuna did not crumble and defended its advantage with order and solvency. The fans were beginning to celebrate a victory that allowed them to catch up with Villarreal – with one game less – in the standings when there was a fight in the area. A clear penalty that Gerard Moreno scored to tie the score in extra time.
