Jean Butez’s anthology goal will go around the world (video)

Relegated to the U23 team for the reasons we know and despite the defeat of Antwerp U23 on Saturday at THES Tessenderlo, goalkeeper Jean Butez even manages to get people talking about him, and for good, at the third level of Belgian football.

He in fact saw that his opposite number Milo Roekaerts was too advanced, and scored by shooting from… 70 meters, with the help of the wind, to equalize in the 18th minute (see on YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/2ezwufcy).

Butez had previously had to give in… 35th second, shot by the Dutchman Mehdi Naqqadi

There were only 200 spectators, but the Frenchman’s goal will certainly go around the world, and will therefore be seen by at least tens of thousands of people.

They all threw themselves on the neck of their idol!

All the kids from the Antwerp U23 team then rushed to throw themselves on the neck of their idol, who however could not prevent the local team from finally winning 2-1 thanks to a goal from Tibe Vanhaeren, who scored via the post in the 52nd minute.

“Too bad,” lamented Great Old coach Johan Lauryssen. “But if we play every week with this grinta and this mentality, we will take a lot of points…”

THES Tessenderlo is sixth with 20 points, six more than Anwerp B, twelfth.

Transferred from Excel Mouscron for one million euros in 2020, Jean Butez is under contract at Antwerp until June 30, 2026.

It is still worth six million euros according to Transfer market.
