The social democrat Adrian Wüthrich is the new mayor of Huttwil. The former National Councilor and President of the trade union umbrella organization Travailsuisse received 983 votes in a runoff election on Sunday. His competitor from the SVP, Marcel Sommer, received 822 votes.

The voter turnout was 50.74 percent, as the municipal authorities announced. In the local council elections at the end of October, Wüthrich achieved the best result almost straight away. The 44-year-old is returning to the Huttwil executive after an eight-year break. He had already listened to this from 2006 to 2019.

After this success, Wüthrich also stood for the separate mayoral election in November. The vice president of the SVP, Marcel Sommer, also did this.

For him, the election to the municipal council was important in order to be able to continue politicizing at the municipal level. Due to term limits, Sommer will have to resign from the local council at the end of the year. He could only have continued if he had been elected mayor.

Peter Nyffeler is now replacing Marcel Sommer, who is leaving the local council. He was in first place on the SVP list.

The Huttwil municipal council now consists of Adrian Wüthrich (SP/municipal president), Manfred Eymann (SVP), Alexander Grädel (EDU), Adrian Lienhart (SVP), Peter Nyffeler (SVP), Sybille Richiger (SP) and André Schären FDP).
