Ski legend Vreni Schneider is celebrating her 60th birthday next Tuesday. The woman from Glarus doesn’t like to be the center of attention. Instead of celebrating, she wants to go skiing for herself on her birthday, as she tells Tamedia.

(Keystone-SDA) 60 is a crazy number, says Schneider to the “SonntagsZeitung”. She doesn’t show any trouble with it. Things were different on her 50th birthday. Because it reminded her of her mother, who had died at that age.
She doesn’t want any attention for her big birthday. She received 50 requests for interviews and blocked most of them. Instead, companions speak out in the newspaper. “Every time I see her, I’m very happy,” said skier Wendy Holdener. She is happy that the woman from Elmer still enjoys skiing.
“Vreni is one of the best skiers in history, an athlete of the century,” praised former Federal Councilor Adolf Ogi. And her character also makes him rave: “Respect, decency, kindness and solidarity are very important to her.”
