Up to four centimeters of snow fell in Paris on Thursday, November 21. A thickness that had not been reached for 56 years this early in the year, even before winter officially reared its ugly head.
Slightly warmer temperatures and a few rays of sunshine melted everything. However, Thursday November 21, Paris found itself under the snow. Four centimeters of powder snow were thus recorded in the streets of the capital, a thickness which had not been observed at this time of year since 1968. 56 years ago, on November 17, 1968 precisely, we were even able to report up to six centimeters of snow at the Paris-Montsouris weather station, reports BFMTV.
In the plains, it snowed even more and a good white layer was still there on Friday morning. When leaving Paris, while remaining in Île-de-France, significantly higher readings were observed. Météo-France indicated that 20 centimeters of powder had been reached at Plessis-Gassot in Val-d'Oise. In Bazemont, in the northwest of Yvelines, 15 centimeters fell on Thursday.
Air traffic disrupted at Roissy
In Roissy, the 15 centimeter mark of snow was also exceeded, which greatly disrupted air traffic. Many flights were seriously delayed due to weather conditions on the ground and in the air. We were also able to record 10 centimeters of snow in Vinantes in Seine-et-Marne.
Friday morning, 24 French departments were still on orange snow-ice alert, but Météo-France was able to lift the alert at midday. Thousands of homes were still suffering from the Caetano storm since 200,000 of them were still without electricity. The Minister of Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, indicated on RMC and BFMTV that Enedis expected a return to normal by Sunday evening.
