Released in cinemas in 2018, Fifty Shades Freed by James Foley features the two lovers who are now married. As the couple prepares to finally find the perfect balance, new threats come to jeopardize the start of their life together.
This time, it is not Kim Basinger who sows chaos in the tortuous relationship, but rather Canadian actor Eric Johnson, in his role as John Hyde. Released from prison on bail, he demands a ransom of five million dollars from Ana in exchange for Mia (Rita Ora), Christian's sister whom he kidnapped…
The worst part of the saga
Although this is the finale of the successful saga, adapted from the work of EL James, the notes prove that it was high time for the adventures of Christian and Ana to end. The press notably gave it an average of 2.1 out of 5, while spectators were slightly more generous by rating it 2.5 out of 5, exactly on average.
Among the worst reviews published on AlloCiné, we can read: “Similar to an episode of a very, very mediocre B series”, “This final part of the trilogy isn't even laughable enough to be entertaining. A total flop”or even “No research, no subtlety, nothing of anything in this rose-water erotic romance, completely flush with the daisies.”
Regarding the national box office, if the first part had attracted more than four million spectators to the cinema, its sequel had achieved a lower score by attracting a little more than three million curious people to theaters, compared to 2.7 million for this final bouquet.
