After whitening the terrain last night, snow has been falling heavily on the plain since midday, covering the entire canton. Precipitation is expected to continue until around 6 p.m.
On the roads and highways, traffic slowed down as the white coat began to hold. The first big difficulties began around 1:30 p.m. on the road to Berne in the Épalinges bypass, located 800 m away.
Traffic was starting to seriously slip on the A12 between the Veyre interchange and Châtel-Saint-Denis. Traffic was prohibited for heavy goods vehicles in both directions around 2:30 p.m. This is also the case on the A9 between Vallorbe customs and Orbe.
“The forecast snowfall will inevitably disrupt traffic and slow down the road network. You have to follow the directions,” said David Guisolan, spokesperson for the cantonal police.
Several accidents took place on the A1 motorway: shortly before 2 p.m. near Estavayer and in the direction of Morat, around 2 p.m. on the A1 near Allaman and in the direction of Geneva. Another occurred at 2:30 p.m. near Yverdon.
