Parts of Italy were recently hit by violent storms. A cold front is now imminent, bringing with it a strong onset of winter.
Rome – Extreme weather conditions are increasing due to man-made climate change. There is a risk of an arctic weather outbreak in some places in Italy this week. A significant deterioration in the weather is expected as early as Wednesday.
Extreme onset of winter in Italy: The weather is deteriorating significantly
The Italian weather service, among others, provided information about the sudden onset of winter in Italy /. Accordingly, cold winds coming directly from the Arctic Circle are on their way to Italy. These currents are expected to lead to a drastic drop in temperature as early as Wednesday (November 20th). At the same time, rain and snowfall are finding their way towards the northern parts of Italy. The southern European country will be hit by the same vortex that was over Germany on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
In the border Alps there will already be snowfall above 800 meters on Wednesday, and the sun will probably not be visible. The Italian weather service is also warning of stormy winds in Sardinia, which could trigger storm surges along the coast that could be over five meters high. The second vortex will hit Italy on Thursday (November 21st), bringing with it significantly worse weather.
“From Thursday the cold will take over” – meteorologists warn Italy
Snowfalls are expected to be the order of the day again on Thursday, especially in northern Italy. In the central south, however, heavy rainfall continues. However, the rest of Italy cannot protect itself from the drastic onset of winter. According to the forecast, the bad weather will move further and further south towards the weekend, with intense night frosts expected in the western Po Valley. “The cold will take over from Thursday,” warns the weather service.
Other portals like meteogiornale.it report a cold snap across Europe. There, too, it is forecast that the cold air will spread throughout northern Italy on Thursday (November 21st). The extreme weather is expected to calm down again from Saturday (November 23rd) or Sunday (November 24th) at the latest. Significantly better weather with lots of sunshine is expected in many places. However, it’s not supposed to get warm, as the arctic winds that continue to blow through the country will ensure that.
