Forecast Discussion:
A complex storm system has moved into the region, and that will allow for some very active weather over the next 36 hours. Rain and snow will continue to fall over the Southern Tier during the day, bringing much-needed moisture. However, as colder air starts to filter in, that will allow for the rain to transition completely over to snow, setting the stage for a snowy overnight. Highs will be in the 30s.
Overnight into Friday morning will see the most of the snowfall, with the chance of seeing snowfall rates reaching 1-2″ an hour. It is important to note that this storm will be very location-dependent, with higher elevations seeing upwards of 18”, while valley regions could see 5”. Any shift in temperature, one way or another, will have a huge impact on snow totals. The snow will be heavy and wet, which increases the risk of power outages and difficulties moving it. Lows overnight will fall to the low 30s.
Friday we will continue to see snow and rain as the system dips south. Highs will be in the 30s, before dropping into the 20s overnight as skies partially clear.
The weekend will feature some isolated chances of a few mixed showers developing as an upper-level disturbance will bring in some moisture. Highs will be in the low 40s.
Next week looks rather quiet, with a small chance of rain on Monday. Temperatures will reach the mid-40s on Monday and Tuesday, before cooling down to the upper-30s Wednesday. Travel for the Thanksgiving holiday looks okay as of now.
