NEW HAVEN, CT — The city’s annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway is set for Thursday at 3 p.m. at Edgewood Park …until supplies last. It’s noted the city has 1,500 turkeys to give out, and the giveaway includes holiday dinner fixings. The giveaway is being held rain or shine.

There are two ways to pick up your bird:

Drive-thru by entering Edgewood Park in your vehicle near the Ranger Station, located at Edgewood Avenue and Hobart Street.

Walk-up: At Coogan Pavilion on foot, or park by the tennis courts area at the West Rock Avenue entrance between Whalley and Yale avenues.

This marks the ninth year of the Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway. Other participating organizations include the Yale Police Department, Yale Hospitality, New Haven Police Department, New Haven Firefighters Emerald Society, New Haven Firefighters Hispanic Society, Northeast Squad Concepts, The Elm City League, CrossPoint Federal Credit Union, and WYBC 94.3.

On Friday, Mayor Elicker will join the New Haven Department of Elderly Services and volunteers from Vertical Church to help distribute over 200 free turkeys and meal baskets to New Haven seniors. The distribution will begin at 9 a.m. for the Atwater Senior Center, 26 Atwater Place, at 10 a.m. at the Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Center, 197 Dixwell Ave, and at 11 a.m. at the East Shore Senior Center, 411 Townsend Ave.

Mayor Elicker will participate in the turkey distribution at Atwater Senior Center at 9 am and Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Center at 10 am.
