Warmer weather returns starting Thursday

It will be another cold night Wednesday across New Mexico. A warming trend begins Thursday afternoon that will continue into this weekend.

It was a very cold start to the day all across New Mexico, with some parts of western and northern New Mexico dropping down into the teens and single-digits. This afternoon, the cooler air continued to stick around even though some parts of the state were warmer than Tuesday. Another cold night is on the way tonight, with low temperatures similar to what we woke up today as skies will remain clear, winds will stay calm, and extremely dry air stays in place.

A warming trend begins Thursday afternoon with high temperatures already climbing back above average for parts of New Mexico. This warming trend will continue through this weekend. Westerly winds will start picking up Saturday and even more so on Sunday. This westerly wind will also help to bring in even warmer temperatures.

Moisture begins moving back into the region by early next week. There is still some uncertainty about how much moisture will move in and for how long. However, there is some decent agreement that the best chances for rain and mountain snow will be along and north of I-40, with the highest chances in southern Colorado. Temperatures will also be cooler early next week.
