Snowfall: patches of ice on the roads this Thursday morning, be careful while driving

Snow fell across most of our territory yesterday evening and overnight, making the roads particularly slippery. The Royal Meteorological Institute places almost all of Belgium on yellow alert.

This Thursday morning, temperatures are around 0°C and remain negative in many places. Conditions conducive to the formation of patches of ice on the roads, making the roads slippery in many places.

The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) is issuing a yellow warning for slippery conditions this Thursday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. for all provinces of the country, with the exception of West Flanders, it indicates. On the Route des Fagnes, a few slips and collisions were already noted on Wednesday afternoon.

The warning is in effect at 5 a.m. Thursday and will be in effect until 9 a.m. Showers of slush or sometimes snow affected our entire territory during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. A small temporary accumulation is possible locally.

At the end of the night, the sky cleared and temperatures dropped to around 0 degrees. Ideal conditions for the formation of patches of ice, which makes the roads very slippery and particularly dangerous.

The 1722 activated

The FPS Interior reported this Wednesday that it had activated the number 1722 after the issuance of a bad weather warning by the IRM. This number is available if firefighter assistance is needed for water damage or storm damage. The 112 remains dedicated to situations where a life is in danger.
