Wind, rain, flood and wave submersion warnings
Initially planned as yellow, the “wind” vigilance for this Thursday evening was upgraded to orange, for all of Corsica, from 11 p.m. and until the next day, Friday 9 a.m.
Other parameters will also be monitored for the evening of Thursday, November 21. From 5 p.m., Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud will be placed on yellow alert for “rain flooding”, then “submersion waves” around 8 p.m., especially on the west coast of Corse-du-Sud according to the Météo-France services.
“After a relative calm in the Libecciu this Thursday, a further strengthening of the wind is expected during the night from Thursday to Friday.
Gusts from the west are around 110-130 km/h in Balagne and on the hills; 140-160 km/h, even occasionally 180 km/h on Cap Corse; around 100-130 km/h on the entire eastern coast as well as the Bastia region. The wind weakened significantly at midday on Friday.”
Air traffic
This Thursday morning, the airports of Ajaccio, Bastia and Figari are operating normally. Only that of Calvi still seems to be impacted since a flight departing from Sainte-Catherine and heading to Marseille, initially scheduled for 7 a.m., was canceled.
Fire
Firefighters from Haute-Corse went to the Pietra di Verde fire this morning to take stock of the situation. The fire would have burned more than twenty hectares before a lull in the wind around 8 p.m. According to the latest information, the fire no longer threatens the village of Pietra-di-Verde.
Power outages
Around 8 p.m. this Wednesday, 3,500 homes were still without electricity, scattered throughout Corsica, due to falling electrical poles. An update on the situation should be quickly established by EDF.
