In a few hours and for several months, the village became – despite itself – the target of a media storm. In Cély-en-Bière (Seine-et-Marne), the former place of residence of Pierre Palmade, a note on Google even indicates, at its former address, the “Palmaworld”, presenting the common house as a 'tourist attraction'… But in the peaceful village of Pays de Fontainebleau, the Palmade affair amuses no one. Even less as the trial approaches, which is to be held this Wednesday, November 20, 2024, before the Melun judicial court, twenty-one months after the events.
In the ancient village of Palmade, everyone wants to turn the page
“We're fed up with hearing about this,” breathes Pierre, a local resident, returning to his home on rue de la Charbonnière, a few houses from the comedian's former property. There have been too many media hypecameras everywhere, journalists blocking the street and ringing doorbells. »
If he was not aware of the trial which opens this week for unintentional injuries, he hopes definitely turn the page of this sad episode: “I hope that justice will restore calm and that the judgment will divert the attention of journalists. »
In his garden, a man is busy cutting down a shrub: “I've seen so many people marching down this street that I don't even want to talk about it anymore,” he grumbles. Fed up with TV! Calm has returned and I hope it stays like that. » On the side of the town hall of Cély-en-Bière, an instruction was passed the day after the dramatic accident: no comments in the media, whatever they may be.
“A way to preserve residents and elected officials”
“It was a way of protecting residents and elected officials from the horde of journalists crowding the streets,” recalls Francis Guerrierthe mayor of Cély-en-Bière. There was no question of adding to the media hype, particularly on 24-hour news channels. »
However, the councilor was on the front line from the evening of the tragedy: “I was called as a witness as part of the investigations to enter the house,” he recalls. Pushing the door open, we feel frightened, because it is a human drama, with a damaged family and the decline of a personality who, until then, had never been talked about in the village. »
“Leave them alone”
However, the mayor recalls that Pierre Palmade's house was already for sale before the accident and was sold after the tragedy. “I received the new buyers and they aspire to tranquility, like all the inhabitants of Cély-en-Bière,” he concludes. So, I think it would be good if we left them alone… And if journalists are interested, there are many other positive ways to talk about our village. »
