Torrential rains in the Vimeu: Maisnières under water

Monday November 18, 2024 marked a dramatic turning point in Vimeu, as torrential rain fell on the region, leading to floods devastating. More particularly, the town of Maisnières, located near Gamachessuffered the consequences of intense and sudden rain which led to several emergency interventions.

Emergency interventions

Emergency services were requisitioned several times during the morning, both in Martainneville and Maisnières, in response to significant damage caused by water runoff. Security agents and specialized teams had to act quickly to secure the premises and provide assistance to the victims.

Maisnières: at the heart of the floods

In the commune of Maisnières, the consequences of the torrential rains were particularly marked. Surrounding fields showered runoff water which flooded up to three homes. Residents reported water levels varying between 4 and 10 centimeters, seriously affecting basements and ground floors. L’garage wall collapse adjacent to a pylon also required the intervention of Enedis teams.

Martainneville: a paralyzed company

In Martainneville, the situation was not much rosier. A logistics transport company experienced a flooding of its docksthus disrupting its activities. Those responsible for this company had to carry out a damage assessment to determine the next steps to take and limit losses.

Weather services indicate that showers could still occur in the coming days. Faced with these extreme weather events, it is crucial for local authorities to ensure the safety of residents, put in place preventive measures and develop infrastructure to better withstand future storms.
