The cold is coming to France, and with it the first snowfalls. There could be some this week in seven departments.
Time for the first snowmen? According to Météo-France, it could snow from Thursday November 21 in several departments.
If the temperatures are still rather mild, this should not last. It will start to get very cold this week, and the first snowfall is expected on Thursday and Friday. Before that, Haute-Savoie was placed on yellow alert for avalanches on Tuesday, November 19.
Seven departments are concerned: Cantal, Hautes-Alpes, Savoie, Haute-Marne, Moselle and Bas-Rhin, in addition to the Territoire de Belfort.
In detail, the first snowfalls are expected during the night from Wednesday to Thursday in the Aurillac sector, on the Alps massif, as well as near Belfort and Chaumont. They could continue throughout the day Thursday.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, in addition to Aurillac, Gap, Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Belfort, Metz and Strasbourg could experience their first snowfall of the season.
Temperatures falling sharply, before rising again
In addition to snow in certain departments, a general drop in temperatures can be expected. Negative figures are expected Thursday and Friday morning, and the mercury should not exceed 7°C Thursday and Friday in the northern part.
In the south either, temperatures will not be mild. For example, it could be –1°C in Gap and 0°C near Aurillac, Thursday and Friday.
If Météo-France forecasts temperatures that are still cool on Saturday morning, they should rise throughout the day until they become mild for the season, particularly in the south. For example, we expect 18°C in Biarritz.
From Sunday, it will be mild across the entire territory.
