Algeria Football – Before the kick-off of the match between Algeria and Liberia, a minute of silence was observed in tribute to two great figures of Algerian football who passed away recently: the legend Rachid Makhloufi and the ex-international Hamid Merakchi.
Rachid Makhloufi, considered one of the best players in the history of Algerian football, made history with the selection, notably by turning his back on colonial France and deciding to join the National Liberation Front team ( FLN). His death left a huge void in the world of sport in Algeria.
As for Hamid Merakchi, former striker of the national team, he was an emblematic figure of Algerian football in the 90s. After an international career, he also left his mark in the clubs where he played. His disappearance upset many fans and former teammates.
The moment of silence, of great emotion, was observed before the match between Algeria and Liberia, a match without major stakes since Algeria had already qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
