In Brienz GR, the deadline for the evacuation of the entire village ended on Sunday at 1 p.m. The red phase now applies. Access is therefore prohibited until further notice.

The final inspection tour is currently taking place, explained Christian Gartmann, spokesman for the municipality of Albula, to the Keystone-SDA news agency after lunch. After its completion, the community will officially inform about the completion of the evacuation.

Representatives from the fire brigade, police, municipal authorities and the cantonal office for military and civil defense are also present on the patrol.

They must ensure that all of Brienz GR's approximately 80 residents have left the village and that no one is still in the danger area.

The two access roads to the village are blocked. A return to the village may not be possible until spring 2025, provided that the 1.2 million cubic meters of rock have already thundered into the valley by then.
