November kicked off with a mild start as a long period of high pressure brought a settled week of warmer than average temperatures.

However, as the pressure has moved on, it has left freezing Scandinavian air in its wake.

The cold snap is set to arrive to the county on Tuesday, bringing with it sub-zero temperatures that will cause the mercury to drop to 0C across much of the county.

“As the cold air spreads south, wintry weather is possible more widely.”

The Met Office has already issued snow and ice warnings for parts of northern England but has stated these warnings are likely to be updated as the cold snap spreads across the rest of the country.

A more severe bout of snow has been predicted by WX charts who have issued maps showing the county being hit by up to 2cm of snow at midnight on Wednesday.
