Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, a pipe carrying hot feed water burst in Voltastrasse. What initially looked like a cloud of smoke rising over the St. Johann district was actually a large amount of water vapor escaping from the roof of the IWB district heating power plant. According to reports from local residents, the fire department was on site with a large contingent.
According to the Basel-Stadt cantonal police, there were no injuries. There is no danger and the situation is under control. Further information from the IWB will follow.
