Yves Bissouma has demonstrated to Ange Postecoglou that he is ready to step up at Tottenham in Rodrigo Bentancur’s absence.

After Spurs’ 2-1 Premier League defeat to Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (10 November), Postecoglou’s mood is likely to be low, especially as doubts over his future emerge.

Things only got worse for the Australian after he discovered that he is likely to be without Rodrigo Bentancur for seven matches (Paul O Keefe via X, 13 November).

Bentancur scored against Ipswich and was one of the few players who could leave the pitch with his head held relatively high. Therefore, to lose the 27-year-old is a big blow, especially during such a busy part of the campaign.

However, Bissouma has showcased that he is ready to fill in for his Spurs teammate after his performance in Mali’s 1-0 African Cup of Nations qualifying victory away at Mozambique in the Estádio do Zimpeto on Friday (15 November).

Yves Bissouma ready to step up at Tottenham in the absence of Rodrigo Bentancur?

Postecoglou has been rotating his midfielders this season as he looks to cope with the added demand of European football.

Bentancur and Bissouma have often interchanged for each other. However, it looks as though Postecoglou won’t have that option in the coming weeks.

Luckily, Bissouma seems to be finding a bit of form. After he was hailed for his performance in Spurs’ 3-2 UEFA Europa League defeat to Galatasaray at RAMS Park (7 November), the midfielder once again impressed, this time for his country.

As per Sofascore, Bissouma provided the match-winning assist against Mozambique, while he also had three shots of his own, two of which were blocked with the other off target.

The midfielder dominated the game in the middle of the park, registering 69 touches of the ball, completing 87 per cent of his passes with three of those key, while 100 per cent of his long balls were accurate.

He succeeded with four of his seven attempted dribbles and won four fouls for his side, while he was also impressive defensively, winning eight of his 15 ground duels and making one clearance and one interception.

It was a performance which will certainly provide Postecoglou with some confidence.

Now the Spurs boss will just be hoping that he can keep the midfielder fit, as he cannot afford to lose any more of his men in that department.
