Alexis Corbière affirms that “each citizen is equal before the law”

On the set of BFMTV this Thursday, Alexis Corbière estimated that “a political crisis is possible if we deviate from the principle of 'each citizen is equal before the law'”, after the penalty of ineligibility required against Marine Le Pen. The MP criticizes in particular the reaction of Gérald Darmanin.

After the prosecutor's office requested a sentence of ineligibility against Marine Le Pen this Tuesday, Alexis Corbière estimated this Thursday, November 14 that it was simply “the application of the law in view of the elements of the case” .

For the New Popular Front deputy, “a political crisis is possible if we deviate from the principle of 'each citizen is equal before the law' (…) and if the law did not apply to them because it is Madame Le Pen, then there is a problem.”

“What Darmanin tells us is that, for her, the law should not apply”

Like many other left-wing elected officials, Alexis Corbière pointed out the reaction of former Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin to the requisition of the Paris prosecutor's office. The former tenant of Beauvau estimated “that it would be deeply shocking if Marine Le Pen was deemed ineligible”.

“(Gérald Darmanin) highlights the particular status of Marine Le Pen, candidate in the presidential election, to say in a way 'do not pronounce ineligibility' (…) What Darmanin tells us is that, for her, the law should not apply,” declared Alexis Corbière on the set of BFMTV.

“It’s not because we are candidates for the presidential election that we are a sacred cow and that the law should not be applied in the same way. (…) No one is irreplaceable,” continued the deputy for the 7th constituency of Seine-Saint-Denis.

“I am struck by the nature of the arguments of variable geometry that I hear, either for political flirting with RN voters or (…) those who say 'in this particular case because it is her, non-enforcement of the law'. It shocks me,” denounced the MP.

After the requisitions, the trial of Marine Le Pen and the National Rally will resume next Monday, with defense pleadings scheduled for two weeks.
