The father and mother of a 15-year-old girl, from the Traveler community, were sentenced to fines by the court (Morbihan) because they had decided to no longer send their daughter to school.

On Wednesday November 13, a couple from the Traveler community appeared before the court in Lorient (Morbihan), reports Ouest-. The reason? The father and mother have decided to no longer send one of their daughters to school at the start of the school year in September in a small town in Central where they have lived for 14 years.

“My daughter doesn’t like going to school”

A decision that was made for all of the couple's 6 children, all of whom attended school until CM2 before continuing their school cycle from middle school at home. It is the mother who teaches the lessons. And that she justified thus: “They have mixed toilets now, they have sex education classes, stuff like that. We don't want that in our home”, quoted by our colleagues.

A sudden cessation of classes which had consequences on the level of the teenager. “It is noted that your 15-year-old daughter has a CE2/CM1 level,” declared the president of the court, Séverine Desbordes. While the mother took care of the steps to homeschool the children, the Academy refused at the start of the 2024 school year. “Now she is forced to go three mornings a week, and she doesn’t like it,” complained the mother in court.

The parents were fined 150 euros each, as well as 127 euros in court costs, by the court.
