Rome (EFE).- The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz won this Wednesday in two sets against the Russian Andrey Rublev on the second day of the ATP Finals, 6-3 and 7-6 (8), and will fight to be in the semifinals of this Masters Cup.

On the decisive day, on Friday, the Murcian will face the German Alexander Zverev, world number 2.

Alcaraz: “It could be better, I’m not going to lie”

Alcaraz assured that he was still affected by the discomfort that has been with him for a few days and that does not allow him to play normally.

The Murcian had to play with a nasal strip to improve his breathing, but he regained good feeling after losing in the opening day against the Norwegian Casper Ruud.

“It could be better, I’m not going to lie. Today I thought that I was going to feel better, that I was going to be fine to play. In the first game I thought a lot that I was bad, that I couldn’t play… today I jumped on the court thinking about playing well to try to give people a good show, because when I left the first game I thought I hadn’t done it,” he said about the Inalpi Arena court where the tournament is held.

“Serves are very important. The best players have a good serve and when you are not 100% your serve is your best weapon. I tried to do better than the first day. I looked at the statistics and he was the worst of all the best players in this regard. That motivated me to be better. “I played well, calmer, especially in the tie-break that allowed me to win in the end,” he added.

Alcaraz will play this Friday to be in the semifinals in the duel against the German Alexander Zverev, world number 2.
